Case Study : Crew.
Field Trip.

Crew wanted to create more genuine, valuable ways for its business community to connect beyond traditional networking.

Just Honest translated that philosophy into a new format called the Crew Field Trip, a repeatable experience format designed around discovery, founder/business owner storytelling and shared participation.

The pilot generated new business conversations, member-to-member opportunities, organic advocacy and stronger community relationships, while validating Field Trips as a format Crew could develop further. The post-experience review found that every core objective was achieved or exceeded.

The Challenge.

Crew had already established a clear philosophy around community: that networking should feel genuine, useful and supportive, rather than forced or transactional.

The opportunity was to translate that philosophy into a new kind of physical experience.

Traditional networking events often create the same problem. They put people in the same room, then leave the most important outcome to chance. In this environment you can't guarantee whether meaningful connection actually happens or not. Crew wanted something different.

The experience needed to showcase a member business, strengthen relationships, encourage knowledge sharing, integrate newer members, generate opportunities for collaboration and reinforce what made Crew different from other business communities.

Most importantly, it needed to feel authentic.

The strategic question became... How do you design an experience where networking isn't the activity, but the outcome?

The Strategy — Just Honest Experience Architecture.

TM

Rather than starting with an event format, we designed backwards from what Crew wanted the experience to achieve.

01

Understand

Crew's value wasn't simply access to other founders/decision makers. It was the quality of the relationships, knowledge and opportunities that could exist between them.

Members didn't need another room in which to exchange introductions. They needed reasons to become genuinely interested in one another.

02

Define

We defined the desired audience shift:

From members who belong to the same network → to members who actively understand, support and create opportunities for one another.

From there, we identified the behaviours the experience needed to encourage:

Explore → Ask →

Share → Support → Connect → Collaborate → Advocate

03

Design

We created the "Crew Field Trip".

Rather than inviting members into a conventional event venue, the Field Trip would take members inside the businesses, stories and worlds of their fellow Crew Members.

The first pilot was hosted by KASKii, a Crew member-founded premium brownie business.

The business itself became the experience.

04

Deliver

Every touchpoint was given a behavioural purpose, from founder storytelling and behind-the-scenes access to personalised details, shared activities and an intentionally informal environment.

The goal wasn't to programme every minute. It was to create enough stimulus for conversation to happen naturally.

05

Evolve

The pilot was treated as a testable format.

Following the experience, we reviewed behaviours, conversations, commercial opportunities, advocacy, client and member feedback to identify what should be retained, developed or changed for future Field Trips.

The Experience Design.

Concept: Go Behind the Business

The first Crew Field Trip gave members access to the founder and story behind KASKii.

Rather than a polished business presentation, guests were invited to discover how the company started, how it had evolved, the decisions behind its growth and the role relationships had already played in opening new opportunities.

Founder storytelling created context.

Behind-the-scenes access created curiosity.

Shared activities created reasons to interact.

Personalised details made members feel recognised.

And an intentionally relaxed format gave conversations room to develop.

The result was an environment where people always had something to discover, discuss or participate in.

Key Moments

Inside a member business
Hosting the experience at KASKii shifted the dynamic immediately. Members weren't simply hearing about another founder's company. They were entering their world.

Founder story and Q&A
The founder shared the origins and evolution of the business, prompting conversations around entrepreneurship, pivots and growth. The Q&A became one of the strongest learning moments of the morning.

Signature Crew brownie
We worked with Kaskii to create a bespoke Crew product,  to bring the community together in a simple physical detail. It became one of the most positively received elements of the experience.

Personalised touches
Individual details and gifting were used to create recognition and reinforce the feeling that attendees were members of a community rather than names on a guest list.

Participatory photography
Instant photography became something members did together rather than simply documentation of the event, encouraging interaction while creating physical and social memories.

Space for conversation
The format deliberately avoided over-programming. Members moved naturally between groups, introduced one another and continued conversations without intervention.

The experience journey moved through invitation, arrival, discovery, storytelling, conversation, memory and community, with curiosity, recognition, participation and conversation deliberately built into the experience.

The Results.

  • Every core experience objective was achieved or exceeded

  • Strong engagement with the founder story and Q&A

  • Members naturally moved between conversations without facilitation

  • Attendees actively supported the host business through purchases

  • Only two registered guests did not attend

  • Guests remained approximately 30 minutes beyond the scheduled finish

  • Organic social sharing extended the experience beyond attendees

  • New and established members connected naturally

  • Multiple commercial conversations and potential partnerships emerged

  • A prospective member progressed to a follow-up conversation about joining Crew

  • Member-to-member connections generated subsequent collaboration opportunities

  • Interest was generated in hosting future Field Trips within other member businesses

The format exceed expectations and successfully encouraged meaningful conversations, strengthened community relationships, celebrated founder stories and organic advocacy, while validating the Field Trip format itself.

Business Impact.

This project didn't just deliver another Crew event.

It turned Crew's philosophy on connection into a repeatable experience format capable of delivering its membership proposition in the real world.

The first Field Trip created multiple layers of value:

For the host business
Greater visibility, member support, purchases and new commercial conversations.

For Crew members
Deeper understanding of one another, new connections, shared knowledge and collaboration opportunities.

For prospective members
A tangible demonstration of what being part of Crew actually feels like.

For Crew
A differentiated community format that can showcase members, activate relationships and create value across the network.

The pilot also changed Crew's view of what its future experiences could achieve. In the founder of Crew's own words, it “opened my eyes to what we can do”.

The experience became a starting point for a bigger Field Trip vision, with future iterations able to go deeper into founder stories, behind-the-scenes access and curated guest participation.

Key Takeaways

01

Networking shouldn't be the activity.

If connection is the objective, design something that gives people a genuine reason to talk.

02

Community is demonstrated through behaviour.

Membership numbers tell you how large a community is. Support, introductions, collaboration and advocacy tell you whether it is working.

03

Small details can do strategic work.

A personalised item, photograph or signature product only matters when it creates recognition, participation, conversation or memory.

04

Founder stories create connection.

People connect more deeply through origins, challenges, decisions and lessons than through polished business pitches.

The intimacy of the Field Trip was part of why it worked. The opportunity is to scale the format and frequency, without automatically scaling the room.

We didn't design a networking event.
We designed reasons to people to connect.

Designing a community people actually want to participate in?

We help brands, membership organisations and communities turn business objectives into experiences designed to create meaningful behaviour.

“Partnering with Just Honest was one of the best decisions I've made. Finding the right people who understand my vision and genuinely want to do great things together has been incredibly valuable. They took my concept and brought it to life through experiences. This is just the start.”
